Twisted stalker put victim through hell
A stalker sent a cow’s tongue to his ex-girlfriend and posted an animal heart to her in a twisted campaign of harassment.
Danny Wells, 29, of Gordon Close, Ashford, has been jailed for offences which also included hacking into his victim’s social media account and posting intimate pictures of her taken when they were a couple, which were sent to her family and friends.
Wells was jailed for two years and eight months when he appeared at Guildford Crown Court, Surrey, last Friday. He was also given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.
After sending more than 100 abusive and threatening emails to his former partner, the abuse escalated early this year when the victim got letters from funeral directors after Wells made inquiries in her name.
He also accessed her online shopping account and purchased more than 20 books with titles including Watching You and Appointment With Death.
Wells sent emails to his victim with a photograph of her son playing in the garden and one which described what she had been watching on television in his eight-month campaign of harassment.
In January he smashed a window at her parents’ home and sent mocking messages to her family. Her car was vandalised several times, including once as a ‘birthday present’ from Wells and in March a petrol can with Wells’ fingerprints on it was left on her car bonnet.
Wells was charged with stalking and an offence under revenge porn legislation in December 2016 but continued to offend while on court bail.
He was then charged with an additional count of stalking in April 2017. Guilty pleas were entered for all three counts.
Investigating officer DC Jacqueline Mennie said: “This is the worst example of stalking and harassment I have witnessed during my time as a police officer.
“Danny Wells put his victim through hell and made her genuinely in fear for her safety, to the point that she was almost constantly afraid that he was watching her and planning to cause her harm.
“She deserves a tremendous amount of credit for having the courage to not only report these offences to us, but also for refusing to allow Wells’ sickening actions to consume her.
“I hope the sentencing is of some comfort to her and that she can now start to put these terrible crimes behind her.
“Tackling stalking and other forms of domestic violence is a priority for police, and victims can be assured that they will receive all the necessary support.”
