Determination and bravery are an inspiration to us all
You can guarantee there won’t be a dry eye in the house when this year’s Children’s Awards winners are announced in the autumn.
Every year the event brings tales of young people’s courage, bravery and determination. And last year’s ceremony was certainly no different.
Audience members, alongside presenter Charlotte Hawkins, listened in awe as they were told about young Finley Jones who battled meningitis at just days old to survive against all odds – thoroughly deserving his award in the triumph over adversity category.
While Rhys Bonnell, described as the The Michael Phelps of the transplant world, picked up a Going For Gold award. Acute heart failure left Rhys requiring a transplant but determined not to be defeated, the teenager was then picked for the World Transplant Games, competing in six swimming events and breaking records as the youngest team member.
And there was a deserving mention for big brother Jayden Tyler Beckwith in the Young Fundraiser category, who after watching his three-year-old sister collapse as a result of her diabetes, launched a massive fundraising drive to raise money for diabetes charities.
There was also recognition for Ella Bulpin as a Young Carer for her outstanding efforts and dedication to dad Spencer who she supported through illness, while Charity of the Year highlighted the work of Find A Voice in Ashford which works with children suffering with speech and language difficulties and Deal Allstars which supports those with disabilities.
