Ina Oaten is celebrating her first hole-in-one. The former Littlestone Warren lady captain achieved the feat acing the second hole in a friendly match against St Augustine’s at the New Romney course last week – but needed playing partner Gill Nunn to tell her she had done it. Ina said: “I used a 5-wood as it was so windy, otherwise it would have been a nine, the ball came off the bank on the left hand side and rolled in. I was surprised and didn’t see it go in but Gill did.” Seventy-four-year-old Ina, who served as captain in 2003, is enjoying playing again after missing six months last year due to a back operation. She took up the game 16 years ago and likes to play two of three times a week, especially in the summer, with her and husband Richard. They live within walking distance of the club. She added: “He has done it before himself when he was a member at Redlibbets when we lived at Dartford. “He missed my moment but was surprised and said well done.” Ina toasted her success by buying wine for members in the clubhouse but added: “They only had a glass as most were driving.” The Willing Cup is an evening match over four weeks and the winner of the first was Laurie Webster with 4lb 13oz. I was second with 4lb 10oz and Phil Tanner third with 4lb 4oz. At the cruise terminal at Dover, Folkestone angler John Wells landed a rare visitor to our shores with a flatfish called a topknot. Although this fish may not be a monster, it is a rare catch. The venue is also producing pollack, bass and dogfish.
