GOLFER IN FORM AHEAD OF ‘BIGGEST WEEK’
of Kent Golf Club in Headcorn, having linked up with him only a couple of weeks ago, after moving from Chart Hills to Littlestone.
And Collins, who just missed the cut on his Amateur Championship debut at Royal Porthcawl 12 months ago, believes the early signs are good.
He said: “I love the way Jacques coaches, while the move to Littlestone means every time I play or practice there it offers a different challenge and allows me more imagination in terms of shot selection and control.”
Collins’ build-up ahead of the Kent Championship included a tied-57 finish in the Brabazon Trophy at Woodhall Spa last month, having finished 15th in the Lagonda Trophy at Cambridge, a couple of weeks earlier.
He admitted: “I struggled a little bit in both the Brabazon and Lagonda and arrived at Kings Hill not really knowing what to expect but everything seemed to click and I played some of my best golf.”
The victory sets-up a return visit to Woodhall Spa for the Champion of Champions Trophy in September, having won it in 2014.
Collins, who works part-time at his father’s commercial printing firm in Appledore, as well as for his girlfriend’s brother’s cleaning business, spent this week fine tuning his game ahead of what he describes as the “biggest week of the year.”
The Amateur Championships, which will be played at Royal St George’s and Prince’s golf clubs, starts on Monday.
