Golden couple celebrate in Spain

-

An Ashford couple have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Dee Wickham, who owns Ashford Emporium in Mabledon Avenue with her sister Maureen, and her husband Roy, who works at Willesborough Garden Centre, celebrated their 50th anniversary recently in grand style.

The couple, who are both 71, have spent the majority of their married life living and working in Ashford.

They jetted off to Spain with 20 family and friends to help celebrate the landmark anniversary.

Mrs Wickham made sure she was dressed for the occasion, in an outfit that was partly made from her original wedding dress.

“We wanted to do something different to celebrate,” said Mrs Wickham.

“We had a glorious time in Spain, although we did stay out there to recover from the first week of celebrations!

“We’ve then continued the celebrations at home with those who couldn’t make it away.”

Although the couple made a pact for no presents, they both surprised each other with a special gift.

Mrs Wickham had her husband’s wedding ring re-engraved, whereas Mr Wickham bought his wife a new ring.

Mrs Wickham said the key to her successful marriage is: “Have the odd arguments as it doesn’t do any harm! And always be fair and kind.”
