There are benefits from May’s election

-

Notwithstanding the lack of overall majority, Theresa May made a sound tactical decision to call the election. The most positive outcome is that Brexit is secure and moreover Scotland remains indefinitely in the Union and attempts at a second referendum in both are thwarted.

A list of mistakes and pitfalls on the campaign trail has delivered an interesting result pattern on the political kaleidoscope, such as the loss of Tory-held Canterbury for the first time since 1918.

As we reap we sow: I am referring to the massive drive at the end of the Referendum campaign in May/June last year to get new voters onto the register. Many were not there in time for last year’s vote but this time around they clearly had their voting papers and turnout increased.

Scotland is secure and Brexit is on course, having seen off second referendums on both, symbolised by the respective ousting of Salmond and Clegg.

Theresa May might well be portrayed in newspaper cartoon slamming on the brake of government in an emergency stop, with the ejected pair flying out of the bandwagon. Wendy Nevard St Nicholas Road, Littlestone
