Bigger population but fewer police

-

Today’s police forces are under a tremendous strain through lack of resources, staff shortages and lack of funding.

How was it that 40 years ago, when the population of Ashford was very much lower, Ashford had a magistrates’ court, central police station and satellite community police houses located in various locations around the town, ie: Canterbury Road, Eyethorn Close, Faversham Road, Willesborough Leas and so on. Bobbies were seen out on the beat and we also had a team of Special Constables.
