Young brass players stage unique concert

-

Young brass musicians will be hosting a unique concert in Bonnington, near Ashford this Saturday.

Shepway Brass Academy (SBS) are performing an open-air concert on a stage stretching out over a lake, playing a variety of tunes, including some nautically themed numbers like Pirates of the Caribbean.

Formed just over three years ago, SBA’s members are aged eight to 18 and they’ve already played many public concerts.

They hope to make this openair concert an annual event.

Musical director Paul Driscoll said: “We hope the audience will enter into the spirit of the event, much as proms-goers do at established concerts of this type.

“Please bring your own rug and chairs, and picnic, though tea and cakes will be on sale to aid our fundraising. SBA charges youngsters just £1 a week for tuition in how to play a brass instrument.”

The concert is at Cherry Orchard, Cherry Orchard Lane, Bonnington, TN25 7AZ. Gates open at 2pm and the performance runs from 3-5pm. Entry is £5 for adults, £2 for 11 to 15-yearolds, younger children free. Dogs are not allowed. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
