Egerton edge home off final ball

Kent Village Lge

-

There was a dramatic finish to the Division 1 game between Egerton and Stone-in-Oxney on Sunday.

Egerton put their visitors in and Nick Maitland gave Stone a flying start by smashing five sixes and 10 fours on his way to 78 off just 49 balls.

Stone closed their 40 overs on 263-9 but Egerton made a strong start to their run-chase with Steve Wellard (51) and Andrew Pask (59) both reaching half-centuries.

The visitors fought back with the ball and took nine wickets with Egerton still needing 10 runs to win.

But Egerton captain Neil Harper (18 not out) and Neil Crossley-Roberts (two not out) were still there at the end as the home side won on the final ball of the match.

Mark Paine hit 60 for Woodchurch as their match against Selling ended in a tie.

Woodchurch made 150 all out before David Rayment (3-15) and Mike Jessop (3-26) helped dismiss Selling for the same score.

Wye posted 247-5 away to 10-man Street End, who then collapsed to 97 all out.

In Division 2, a brilliant unbeaten century from captain Jordan Godden set up Mersham le Hatch for a big win over Tyler Hill.

Godden smashed eight sixes and 15 fours on his way to 137 not out and that knock boosted the Mersham total up to 251-4.

Rob Benn then claimed 4-47 as nine-man Tyler Hill were dismissed for 169.

Challock only had eight players for their home game against Smarden.

Tom Crisford (3-20) helped skittle them out for just 74 and Smarden went on to win by five wickets.

Stowting chased down 197 at Borstal to win by eight wickets.

Mersham Sports captain Darren Pugh starred with bat and ball in their win over Borden.

He scored 96 in their total of 267-3 with Matthew Fagg (51 not out) and Alan Stevens (46) also among the runs.

Pugh returned to pick up 6-24 from nine overs as Mersham dismissed Borden for 188.

Kingsnorth scored 174-9 at Town Malling but lost the match by four wickets.

In Division 5, a close game saw Rolvenden beat Littlebourne by just eight runs.

Ross Antrem (79) and Joe Vidler (60 not out) helped Rolvenden to 230-5 but Littlebourne pushed them all the way before closing on 222-6.

Tom Williams took 4-11 as Little Chart bowled Woodcoombe out for 149.

Little Chart went on to win by four wickets thanks largely to Matt Eccles (48 not out) and captain Christopher Eccles (45).

In last week’s Kentish Express we ran a report about Stone-inOxney’s six-wicket victory at Littlebourne in Kent Village League, Division 1.

Both the story and the headline referred to skipper Nick Maitland.

We have been asked to point out that Nick Maitland is not the captain of Stone – Owen Piper is. We also called Owen Piper, Owen Price in the copy.

We apologise for the mistakes and for any embarrassment they may have caused the club.
