Taylor finished 109 not out in a total of 266-6 after Ashford had won the toss and chosen to bat first.

The home side had slumped to 50-3 at one stage but Taylor and Fraser Harrison (65) shared a 130-run fourth-wicket partnership to swing the game their way.

Wickets fell early in the Catford reply as Craig Buckham – the Kent League’s leading wickettaker – did some major M Tuffs b Gaire .................................22 D Lodge b J Grove ............................56 G Hall st Matthews b Carroll ..............28 A Clark c Iles b Carroll.......................18 R Howells b Jolley.............................68 M Dilkes run out ...............................11 C Ross c S Grove b J Grove .................1 K Ives run out .....................................5 S Post not out .....................................2 J Parsons not out ................................1 Extras .................................................6 damage on his way to 6-59.

Buckham has now claimed 27 wickets at an average of 8.56 so far in 2017 and his latest haul steered Ashford towards a 92-run victory.

Catford were all out for 174 in the 45th over and this win – Ashford’s fifth of the season – leaves them 17 points clear at the top.

Ashford captain Liam Tegg said: “It’s coming out well for Craig at the minute.

“He bowls leg spin and that’s something you don’t face often. “He’s bowling consistently well and we’re chuffed to have someone like that. He’s done it every week this year.

“Our goal was to be top at the halfway stage of the season and it’s all positive right now.”

Ashford 2nds are ninth in Division 5 following their seven-wicket defeat at second-placed High Halstow.

Rehan Mithu (50) top scored in the Ashford total of 137 all out and Halstow chased that down inside 28 overs.
