Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Development Update -

Res­i­dents are in­vited to take part in the re­vised Lo­cal Plan con­sul­ta­tion, which will run un­til the end of Au­gust.

Cabi­net mem­ber for plan­ning and de­vel­op­ment Cllr Paul Clokie said: “This is an im­por­tant doc­u­ment, and one which will have a big im­pact on the bor­ough’s fu­ture, there­fore we have ar­ranged for a se­ries of ex­hi­bi­tions where coun­cil of­fi­cers will be on hand to ex­plain the pro­posed changes.

“We hope res­i­dents take the op­por­tu­nity to find out more and take part in this con­sul­ta­tion.”

There will be meet­ings held across the bor­ough, and res­i­dents can take part on­line by vis­it­ing www.ash­ford.gov.uk/lo­calplan-to-2030. been ear­marked in Ald­ing­ton, Brook, Chal­lock, Chil­ham, Ham­street, High Halden, Mer­sham, St Michael’s, Wit­ter­sham and Wood­church.

The largest of the vil­lage de­vel­op­ments is at Char­ing, where land to the west of the Pop­py­fields es­tate could see the con­struc­tion of 180 more homes.

Fi­nally, the coun­cil has also looked at the for­mer Bom­bardier works at Chart Lea­con as a po­ten­tial brown­field site, de­pend­ing on whether South­east­ern and Net­work Rail still re­quire it in fu­ture.

The coun­cil has launched a con­sul­ta­tion about the plans, which will run un­til Thurs­day, Au­gust 31.
