Residents are invited to take part in the revised Local Plan consultati­on, which will run until the end of August.

Cabinet member for planning and developmen­t Cllr Paul Clokie said: “This is an important document, and one which will have a big impact on the borough’s future, therefore we have arranged for a series of exhibition­s where council officers will be on hand to explain the proposed changes.

“We hope residents take the opportunit­y to find out more and take part in this consultati­on.”

There will be meetings held across the borough, and residents can take part online by visiting www.ashford.gov.uk/localplan-to-2030. been earmarked in Aldington, Brook, Challock, Chilham, Hamstreet, High Halden, Mersham, St Michael’s, Wittersham and Woodchurch.

The largest of the village developmen­ts is at Charing, where land to the west of the Poppyfield­s estate could see the constructi­on of 180 more homes.

Finally, the council has also looked at the former Bombardier works at Chart Leacon as a potential brownfield site, depending on whether Southeaste­rn and Network Rail still require it in future.

The council has launched a consultati­on about the plans, which will run until Thursday, August 31.
