Si­enna’s tal­ents recog­nised

All-rounder is per­fect de­scrip­tion for tal­ented young­ster Si­enna Bates.

Now the Year 7 Ash­ford School pupil has been re­warded for her ver­sa­til­ity by be­ing named Sportswoman of the Year at the Best in Ev­ery­one Awards cer­e­mony at Strat­fordupon-Avon.

She was one of seven pupils to re­ceive awards, pre­sented by own­ers United Learn­ing, which has sev­eral other in­de­pen­dent schools and acad­e­mies across the coun­try.

The awards launched in 2012, cel­e­brate the out­stand­ing achieve­ments of stu­dents and their teach­ers.

Di­rec­tor of sport Tony Wilde said: “Si­enna was awarded a Sports Schol­ar­ship when she joined Ash­ford School in Septem­ber last year.

“She has taken part in many sports ac­tiv­i­ties, rep­re­sent­ing the school in net­ball, hockey, cross-coun­try, swim­ming, track and field and mod­ern pen­tathlon.

“A pop­u­lar team mem­ber with a strong com­pet­i­tive streak, she is a real driv­ing force for our teams.

“Her strong en­durance means she ex­cels in her run­ning events and last sea­son was a se­lected to rep­re­sent Kent in the in­ter-county cross-coun­try cham­pi­onships

“A nat­u­ral tal­ent she also com­petes in mod­ern pen­tathlon multi-sports for the school and is presently ranked sixth in her age-group in biathlon.

“In hockey she ex­cels with skill and per­se­ver­ance and has abil­ity be­yond her age, due to her con­sis­tency, ac­cu­rate ball skills and read­ing of the game, and her de­ter­mi­na­tion and drive to suc­ceed have re­sulted in be­ing se­lected above her year group on sev­eral oc­ca­sions.”

Mum Gina added: “De­spite los­ing her fa­ther to brain can­cer when she was five, a nat­u­ral sports­man him­self, Si­enna has al­ways strived to make him proud through her achieve­ments.”
