Sienna’s talents recognised

All-rounder is perfect descriptio­n for talented youngster Sienna Bates.

Now the Year 7 Ashford School pupil has been rewarded for her versatilit­y by being named Sportswoma­n of the Year at the Best in Everyone Awards ceremony at Stratfordu­pon-Avon.

She was one of seven pupils to receive awards, presented by owners United Learning, which has several other independen­t schools and academies across the country.

The awards launched in 2012, celebrate the outstandin­g achievemen­ts of students and their teachers.

Director of sport Tony Wilde said: “Sienna was awarded a Sports Scholarshi­p when she joined Ashford School in September last year.

“She has taken part in many sports activities, representi­ng the school in netball, hockey, cross-country, swimming, track and field and modern pentathlon.

“A popular team member with a strong competitiv­e streak, she is a real driving force for our teams.

“Her strong endurance means she excels in her running events and last season was a selected to represent Kent in the inter-county cross-country championsh­ips

“A natural talent she also competes in modern pentathlon multi-sports for the school and is presently ranked sixth in her age-group in biathlon.

“In hockey she excels with skill and perseveran­ce and has ability beyond her age, due to her consistenc­y, accurate ball skills and reading of the game, and her determinat­ion and drive to succeed have resulted in being selected above her year group on several occasions.”

Mum Gina added: “Despite losing her father to brain cancer when she was five, a natural sportsman himself, Sienna has always strived to make him proud through her achievemen­ts.”
