Make bad drivers learn the hard way

-

I read about a proposed speed limit on the A2070.

I wish the very best of luck to anyone attempting to enforce this limit. We have all seen drivers who know a speed limit but assume that it doesn’t apply to them and drive however fast they want.

Several years ago there was a speed limit on the same road because some work was being carried out. The limit then was 30mph, and as I attempted to keep to this limit I had drivers pushing me to go faster.

They were so close that if I tried to slow down they would have been attached to my rear bumper. It is a pity that there isn’t some way to stop the speeding drivers and hold them up (stationary) for several minutes. Perhaps then the message would get through.

The same goes for drivers who flout the law about mobile phones and drinkdriving. The higher fines and points on their licences hasn’t worked, so how about banning them for several years? And if they kill someone, ban them for life.

No one makes them break the law, so if they lose their job as a consequence it is their own fault. I am sorry to get on my high horse about these matters, but it makes me so annoyed. Mrs J. Rolfe Kingsnorth Road, Ashford were to specify ragstone detailing for many of the new dwellings planned to be built. Ralph Carpenter Chilmington Green, Great Chart matter for disappointment, especially one with the integrity of Dog World, and I for one owe a debt to the Ashford publishing team for the thorough, comprehensive and balanced journalism which kept us informed and entertained each week.

Dog World was a paper with authority, enthusiasm and compassion. Its closure is a loss, not just to Ashford and to journalism in Kent but to “doggy” folk around the world. Tony Crowther Kellett Road, Southampton
