More ‘Oscars’ for luxury ice cream
Luxury ice cream maker Simply Ice Cream has been presented with two Great Taste Awards this year, taking the company’s total tally up to 32 stars over 19 separate Great Taste Awards.
Now, over half the Simply Ice Cream range is Great Taste Award-winning.
This year Simply Ice Cream, based in Bonnington near Ashford, has been awarded two stars for its brown bread ice cream flavours and one star for its mint choc chip flavour.
The Great Taste Awards are known as the ‘Oscars of the Food World’.
Sally Newall, managing director and founder of Simply Ice Cream, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive more Great Taste Awards this year. It’s been such a fantastic year for Simply.”
Simply Ice Cream is made up of a small team producing ice cream by hand, using only Kent ingredients where possible, natural flavours and seasonal fruits.
The products are available from selected Waitrose and John Lewis outlets, farm shops, village stores, delis, pubs, tea rooms, attractions and restaurants across the South East. Ashford businessman Clive Gawler raised an impressive £5,000 for charity by completing a 100-mile bike ride.
The founder and director of security agency, Red Alert, participated in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 to raise money for the Anthony Nolan blood cancer charity.
Mr Gawler said: “The ride was absolutely fantastic and was matched only by the generosity of the friends, customers and business contacts who donated so enthusiastically to this great cause.”
Cyclists departed the Olympic Park in Stratford at 8.40am, passing through Canary Wharf and the City of London before heading towards the neighbouring county of Surrey.
The route took in plenty of hills, producing a combined climb of 4,510ft.
Mr Gawler was inspired to join the ride after the daughter of a family friend, Alice Byron, died of blood cancer aged 21. She was diagnosed with the illness during her final year at university.
“I would like to thank everyone for sharing their own stories and experiences of Anthony Nolan. Reading these really underlined the amazing work the charity is undertaking.” he added.
Anthony Nolan has been saving the lives of people with blood cancer for over four decades.
The charity uses its register to match stem cell donors to patients in need of stem cell transplants.
The funds Mr Gawler raised will enable the charity to recruit 80 potential stem cell donors, any one of whom could be a lifesaving match for someone with blood cancer.
Kirsty Mooney, manager of events at Anthony Nolan, said: “We are delighted that Clive cycled the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 with Anthony Nolan again this year. Pedal by pedal, mile by mile, he will be saving lives.”
