MP drops in to boost job hopes
Ashford MP Damian Green visited a group of students participating in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme.
A group of 15 to 17-year-olds met with the first secretary of state at the CXK headquarters in Ashford, which supports adolescents in employment through career services.
Students have spent time working on a group project during the four-week programme, and presented their ideas to Mr Green.
The social action plan projects, which consist of over 30 hours of volunteering are designed to tackle social issues for the benefit of the community.
Mr Green said: “I am always pleased to see how young people in Ashford take to the National Citizen Service course, both in terms of enjoying it and learning so much from it.
“I’m really grateful that this year the effect of the voluntary work they do as part of the course will help clean the town up, and provide help to older people in care homes.”
Highworth Grammar School pupil Arina Thapa, 16, said: “I’ve made so many friends, and we’ve become like a family. It was amazing to meet Mr Green and to present our social action project to him. Hearing his feedback really inspired us.”
Michael Lynas, chief executive of NCS said: “NCS continues to inspire our young people across the country.”
