Night sky theme to village’s flower festival

-

The 56th Appledore flower festival will take place this weekend.

It will be held in the village’s St Peter & St Paul Church on Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday from 10am to 5.30pm, and from noon to 5.30pm on Monday.

This year’s theme is Reach for the Stars and will show constellations in the night sky featuring more than 30 floral arrangements.

Included will be Libra, Sagittarius and Orion as well as more obscure ones such as Lepus, Draco and Fornax.

Flowers for the arrangements are paid for by sponsorship from local businesses and patronage from other supporters so that all money given during the festival go to the church’s upkeep. Homemade refreshments will be available and there will be live music throughout.

Admission and parking are free and there will be stalls selling cakes, crafts, preserves, local produce, plants and books.

At 7pm tomorrow (Friday) a festival preview will be held with music, wine and canapes. Tickets are £5 to include food and the first drink. Call 01233 758256 to book.

The flower festival organiser is Donna Clifton, who took over five years ago.

She is the grand-daughter-inlaw of Lorna Clifton, who introduced the first flower festival in Kent, the tradition continuing in Appledore almost without a break since 1961. 1 Luis Fonsi – Despacito (ft.
