Kentish Express Ashford & District
Fly-tipping will not be tolerated
I note each week comments in the Kentish Express about our litter and fly-tipping problems.
I have the greatest respect and admiration for Biffa and our own Street Scene Officers and of course T-CAT who on a regular basis clear away discarded items and litter from our surrounding streets and town. I also need to mention the litter picks that are organised by Keep Ashford Clean, a group of volunteers who work tirelessly combatting the never ending litter problems the borough endures.
This photo shows the problems experienced on at least a monthly basis in parts of Torrington Road, South Ashford, which again last week was collected and removed.
I dread to think what our areas would be like if we did not have these dedicated individuals who work on our behalf and very often without the just praise they all deserve.
I sincerely hope that the litter enforcement programme continues and is indeed rolled out to neighbouring areas and not confined only to the town.
We all need to be vigilant and if we see any fly-tipping or general dumping of waste and rubbish report it via the Ashford Borough Council (ABC) Report It tool on the council website.
This is unacceptable and selfish behaviour by the few that will not be tolerated by the many. Cllr Jenny Webb, ABC member for Norman ward
Please Ashford retailers, spare a thought for people with prams, pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Once you have set up your display, borrow a couple of the aforementioned items and then browse your own store. You might be surprised by how many potential sales you are losing out on simply because you don’t leave room for your customers to manoeuvre. Mrs Pam Durant (wheelchair/scooter user) South Ashford gully and tip over.
Is it the intention of Kent Highways to place some kind of barrier between the kerb and the gully as the way it appears to have been left is, I think, concerning? P. Welbourn Kennington
