Another traffic project is now causing major delays

Drivers in queues for 20 minutes during rush hour

Just weeks after Kennington Road was reopened following lengthy works, another traffic project in Ashford town centre is causing major disruption.

The scheme, which began on September 4 and is due to last for 12 weeks, will alter the structure of the junction so the left hand lane, as you head north over the railway bridge, will be for turning left into Elwick Road only.

Although the work was only expected to cause ‘minimal disruptions’, with no road closures and temporary traffic lights, it is actually causing havoc for motorists, especially those travelling into town due to making it a single file lane from the A2042 heading north over the railway bridge.

This means that motorists using the road to travel into the town centre are being delayed by about 15 to 20 minutes in rush hour due to slow-moving traffic that has to filter into just one lane.

At peak times the traffic has backed all the way back to the Designer Outlet and motorists are continuously blocking the Victoria Way, Beaver Road and Avenue Jacques Faucheux junction which is causing delays in all directions.

The pedestrian crossings will also be getting an upgrade, with push buttons added to the central reservations and the crossing points will be staggered. It is expected that the work in the area will be completed by the beginning of December.
