Man just out of jail back in trouble
A man who punched his lover in the face four days after being allowed out of jail is back inside.
Anthony Kingwell had renewed his relationship with the mother of his child after his early release from a sentence for an affray.
Canterbury Crown Court heard how in July Kingwell, 35, had gone to a nightclub. When he returned to Ashford he discovered his partner had slashed her wrists.
As he cleaned up the blood, the two began rowing and she scratched his neck before he punched her once in the mouth, prosecutor Edmund Fowler told the court.
Police arrived and found the woman holding a towel to her face and nursing a wound.
She later told officers: “He’s gone psycho. He has split my lip.”
Kingwell, of Denness Road, Ashford admitted a charge of unlawful wounding and was jailed for eight months for the attack.
His lawyer James Burke said: “He regrets his loss of temper which happened in trying circumstances.”
Judge Simon James said Kingwell, who has previous convictions for causing grievous bodily harm, robbery and causing an affray, had a “propensity to violence.”
He added: “This offence happened while you were supposed to be subject to post-release supervision from prison, following your early release from a 22-month sentence.
“You knew only too well how vulnerable and troubled your victim was; instead of continuing to help her you lost your temper and struck her.”
After reading a letter by Kingwell, the judge told him: “I accept that you are genuinely sorry for what happened.”
