Smith seals fine comeback

Jack Smith scored the winner as Folkestone Invicta came from behind to beat Woodchurch 4-3 in the Ashford & District League, Premier Division.

Woodchurch opened the scoring and made it 2-0 just before half-time.

Invicta regrouped and started the second half well, with Chris Prebble putting man-of-the-match Lee Baker through to pull a goal back .

Woodchurch r esponded with a goal from a free-kick to restore their two-goal lead.

Good inter-play between Jamie Farnes, Baker and Laine Yeomans put Connell Baker through to reduce the arrears to 3-2.

Charing overcame a half-time deficit and a missed penalty to win 3-1 away to Hythe Grovellers.

The visitors started the first 20 minutes brightly but on the half hour mark they conceded a free-kick which Hythe scored from.

Charing were then awarded a penalty but Oli Prior saw his effort saved and when the referee ordered a re-take, the Charing man suffered the same fate.

A better start to the second half eventually brought an equaliser from Tyrone Calveley and soon after, Charing got themselves in front with a finish from outside the box from Sam West.

With 10 minutes left, the Hythe keeper went up for a corner but was caught out by a quick clearance by Dan Peat and Seb Clarke won the race with a defender to score and complete the comeback.

Smarden eased to an 11-1 win over Tenterden Reserves, led by Brad Burton who scored twice and provided five assists to earn the man-of-the-match award.

Dave Law led the scoring charts with four while Paul Burt bagged a hat-trick.

George Dyke and Charlie Banks also scored late in the game.

Lydd 3rds led 4-0 at half-time before running out 9-1 winners away to Smeeth & Brabourne in Division 1.

Jordan Spann and Allen Starling both scored hat-tricks with Corey Blake adding a double.

Stefan Cook netted the other goal and was man-of-the-match.

Rolvenden Reserves and Lydd Marsh under-21s saw all the goals coming in the first half.

Lydd winger Kai Harris helped create several opportunit­ies but the home side were unable to capitalise and helped by a couple of mistakes. Rolvenden led 3-1 at the break.

Matthew Sayer scored for Lydd but despite both sides having further chances after half-time. neither keeper was beaten again.

South Willesboro­ugh faced Sturry Kings in the Kent Cup and started badly as Danny Newby put through his own net inside five minutes.

Boro then gave away penalty but were indebted to Blu Parker who made a fine save after which they started to get back into the contest.

Several chances followed before a Liam Sheldon-Smith free-kick led to the equaliser and Sturry then conceded a penalty which was converted by Ryan Carter to make it 2-1.

Sturry did their best to level but found keeper man-of-the-match Parker in fine form.

He made a made a string of excellent saves, tipping one effort over the bar and diverting another around the post.

Both teams had a goal disallowed before Boro went 3-1 up just before half-time with a goal from Craig King .

Carter’s second stretched the lead further but Boro then allowed Sturry to create several chances, one of which led to a second goal.
