Avoid hold-ups by going via Scotland
In reply to the letter from B. Welbourn regarding the Barrey Road junction (September 21) I hate to say it but I told you so.
A few weeks ago when this speed restriction was first proposed, I wrote to say that it would never be adhered to by some drivers.
I repeat that some drivers think that any speed limits don’t apply to them and if you try to keep to the limit you are definitely bullied into going faster. The only thing that would slow them down are traffic lights at that junction.
Going on to the roadworks in the town centre, why could these not have been done when we had all the upheaval with the alterations to junctions and traffic islands?
That way there would have only been one massive hold up instead of two.
It doesn’t take anyone with half a brain to think of these things but perhaps the people that decide these are so reliant on technology that their brains have stopped working.
The only way to avoid all the hold ups is to go via Scotland. Jean Rolfe, Kingsnorth Road, Ashford it has been a pleasure to work behind the shop counter. KWG was unique, not only in supplying farmers and the retail sector with their requirements but also as a place to stop and have a chat, something missing in today’s fast world.
Many a time a customer in the queue had to wait while the person being served wished to say something.
This was an essential part of KWG’s business and an apology to the customer being kept waiting was invariably understandably accepted.
We hope you, the customers, will miss the staff, the staff will certainly miss you.
Finally, for those who supported the Kent Air Ambulance through KWG, the proceeds in the collection box totalled £408.65. Again, thank you. John Donovan, Church Road, Sevington, Ashford
