- By Kristina Curtis

A s o d- t urning c e r e mony has taken place at the site of Bridgefield Park, a new play and recreation space in Kingsnorth.

Mayor o f Ashford Cl l r Winston Michael and the chairman of Kingsnorth Parish Council, Alison Breese, dug the first spade into the ground and made a short speech to mark the start of the construction.

Cllr Michael said: “I am pleased to see works commence on Bridgefield Park, which will provide an excellent new recreation and play facility for the Kingsnorth community.

“This exciting project provides a range of leisure and sports facilities. It is important, as the borough of Ashford expands, that we work with partners to meet future demands for quality open spaces like this.”

Mrs Breese said: “Bridgefield Park will provide the Kingsnorth community with a wonderful open space for leisure and recreation, and we look forward to having this excellent park in our parish.” The park will include an adventure play area, a community orchard, walking and cycling paths, an open green space and a nature conservation area.

The play area has an Iron Age theme and will feature a large tower with two zip wires, a slide, swings, play tractors and a willow tunnel. It will also cater for disabled children, with wheelchair-friendly equipment.

The project is supported by Kingsnorth Parish Council and it is hoped it will open by spring 2018.
