Pupils join head on night walk for hospice

-

Pupils at the Kennington Academy will put their best foot forward for charity this weekend by taking part in a new night-time walk.

Leaders at the Pilgrims Hospice have organised the A Night to Shine event, which will bring together people of all ages in walking courses of up to 10km.

The walks, over 5km or 10km routes, start from the Julie Rose Stadium at 7pm on Saturday.

Pupils Olivia, Daisy and Lily will take part in the event, as will head teacher Katie Wratten.

They will lay lanterns in the Kennington memorial garden opposite the school in Upper Vicarage Road when the walk passes their school.

Mrs Wratten said: “Last year a colleague of mine was cared for by the Pilgrims Hospice after a very short illness. The support and care they gave to her and her family was absolutely fantastic.

“I want the children to understand the importance of supporting charities such as Pilgrims Hospice and so hope to set an example by doing so myself.

“I am delighted that Olivia, Daisy and Lily are taking part in the walk and we hope to encourage others to take part in the new 5km family walk that the hospice has introduced this year.”

The walks cost £15 for adults and £10 for children in advance, or £20 for adults and £15 for children on the night.
