Division 3 of the Ashford District League has begun to take shape following the third week of matches. Yo-yo team Ashford B have lived up to their billing as early season favourites to bounce back to Division 2 with another impressive 8-1 victory, this week over Rolvenden, with Bob Young and John Jarvis maintaining their 100% starts to the season. With only two games dropped from 27 played, it is hard to see who is going to put the brakes on Ashford B’s title bid. Hot on Ashford B’s heels and the only other team unbeaten, are Challock C who won 6-3 in their top-of-the-table clash with the only other unbeaten side, Cheriton Motor House. All five of the players who went into the match with a 100% record lost at least one game, Jamie Macdonald, Richard Warren and Nigel Griffiths all winning two for Challock and John Wilkinson picking up two for Cheriton Motor House. Newly-promoted Little Chart Posties showed they are not out of their depth in this division with a 9-0 win over Challock D. Colin Price, Frazer Duncan and Brian Milner all picked up maximums for the Posties, who move up to fifth in Division 3. The young guns of Ashford C, Dan Housden and Luke Garvey, both picked up two points and the ever-reliable Jenny Swain three points in a 7-2 victory over Sportsmen B, for whom new boy Ken Walter showed the value of this astute summer transfer from Rochester, winning two out of his three. Ashford C move above Rolvenden to fourth spot and remain outside title contenders.
