Mersham hold their nerve

Mersham Sports progressed to the second round, thanks to a penalty shootout victory against Maidstone & Mid Kent League side White Horse.

The teams could not be separated after 120 minutes, with the score level at 3-3.

However, Mersham kept their nerve to win 3-2 on spot kicks and set up a clash against Hamstreet next month.

Goals from John Turley, Rob Clark and Pete Shields had seen the game go to extra-time. Sunday 4-0, with strikes from Matt Jarvis (2), Calvin Smith and Tom Collins.

Mersham Reserves left it late to register their first victory as they came back 2-0 down to knock out Maidstone Tempests 3-2.

The hosts looked secure with a two-goal lead midway through the second-half but a goal from Adam Bellman and two strikes from Adam Tickner in the final 10 minutes saw Mersham snatch an unlikely win.

Ten-man Red Heathens beat Cross Keys 2-1 after extra-time. They were a man short for the entire 120 minutes and had Artsoms Andrejevs on hand to score in normal time before Paul Vidler netted in extra-time.

Sellindge SSC and CFC crashed out at hurdle.

Sellindge lost 6-2 at Sutton Valence Athletic despite goals from Jordan Burton and Cody McGovern, while Channel lost by the odd goal in nine against Woodnesbor­ough, their goals coming from Adam Ghidaoui (2), Adam Herrington and Jamie White.

Kingsnorth Pilgrims bowed out, suffering another heavy defeat, this time losing 7-1 to South Willesboro­ugh.

A Joe Mant hat-trick put South Willesboro­ugh on their way, while Chris Boxshall added two more. One Channel the first each of Mike Norris and Lee Carrot sealed the victory for the hosts. Adam Bailey was on target for Pilgrims.

In the other all-Ashford tie, Sam Wilson’s hat-trick helped Ashstone Galacticos maintain their 100% winning start to the campaign with a 7-3 success at home to Givaudan.

Wilson’s treble was accompanie­d by two goals from both Josh Knight and Lee Dehara, cancelling out strikes from Paul Halliday, Sam Marsh and Tony Bromley for Givaudan.

Matt Moon scored a hat-trick and ended up on the losing side for the second successive week as Ashford Cavaliers Reserves were knocked out and beaten 5-3 at Park Royal Reserves.

The hosts raced into a two-goal lead with two strikes from Ryan Strand but the Albert fought their way back with goals from Jordan Griffin, Tom Brown, Andrew Millen and James Wood.

A Steve Warren hat-trick saw AFC Ashford Athletic move second with a 3-2 win, ending Ashford Dynamos’ unbeaten start.

Dynamos scored through Ryan Carter and Connor Little.

Lolzors striker Steve Fuller made it nine goals in his last two appearance­s with five in the Puma’s 6-1 win at home to Troggs.

Kallum Handy scored Lolzors’ other goal with Rob Giles grabbing the Troggs’ consolatio­n goal.

Appledore returned winning ways, edging Sunday 5-4.

Bradley Godden scored four of the Smugglers’ goals with Jermaine Williams adding the fifth.

Charing found the net through Byron Price, Ben Harte, Ollie Fleet and Rhys Hodges. to Charing

The former Shepway Spartans frontman has hit the ground running at his new club and his goal – the only of the game – moved the Lobsters level on points with leaders Ashstone Galacticos.
