Trumpet blows for anniversary concert
Twenty years ago, a small group of like-minded, earlymusic performers got together to form what has become one of the UK’s foremost exponents of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Taking his name, The Bach Players were formed and have delighted audiences both here and abroad with their innovative programmes, which explore the vocal and instrumental repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries, with Bach being the linchpin of their concerts.
On Sunday, October 22, at 5pm, in St Mary’s Church, Kenardington, TN26 2NQ their 20th anniversary all-Bach programme entitled Sound the Trumpet will bring together nine musicians, all of whom have played with many of the UK’s leading period orchestras.
Two works for soprano, the famous Wedding Cantata, ‘Weichet nur betrübte Schatten’ and ‘Jauchzet Gott’ give virtuosic parts to solo soprano and in the latter, trumpet, which also features in the 2nd Brandenburg Concerto. The soprano in these cantatas is Rachel Elliott, one of the country’s leading singers in the music of J. S. Bach.
Saxon Shore Early Music Kenardington was formed in November 2015, when The Bach Players gave the inaugural concert to a capacity audience, following which they were invited to become artists-in residence, giving a yearly recital. To book tickets visit www.ssemk.org or call 01233 721242.
