Delight in an evening with Jane Austen

-

The village of Godmersham has been immortalised with the arrival of the new £10 note.

The note celebrates the life of the author Jane Austen. Her portrait is the centrepiece and in the background are Godmersham House and Park, where Jane spent many of her holidays and wrote a series of letters to her sister. One of her books, Mansfield Park, is thought to have been based on Godmersham.

To celebrate, its owner Fiona Sunley, and the Trustees of the Godmersham Park Heritage Centre, are staging an Evening with Jane Austen at Godmersham House on Sunday, October 29, at 6pm.

There will be readings from Jane Austen’s novels by actors Caroline Langrishe and Adrian Lukis, and music from Camilla Pay (harpist) and Rosie Lomas (soprano).

Tickets, including champagne and canapes, cost £30. To book call 01227 732272.
