Unfair to punish innocent citizens

-

I read with interest your piece about Iceland having to lock its rear door after ‘hundreds’ of thefts (September 28).

When I raised the issue, a manager informed me that they had raised concerns about the increased footfall from people using the store as a cut-through whilst Taylor’s Passage was closed due to refurbishment work.

One has to wonder over precisely what period/aeon of time these shoplifters were allowed to run riot.

Will our court system ever be able to cope with the overload?

In all seriousness, why are law-abiding citizens being penalised for the actions of a few lawbreakers?

The store’s action would be inconvenient at the best of times but the outrageous closure of Taylor’s Passage means that it is having an especially great impact on the disabled, elderly and young mothers with small children if they need to access either Wilkinsons or Edinburgh Road car parks.

What may be for the fit and healthy an easy diversion via North Street into Park Street or via Park Mall, is quite another thing for these groups.

“We haven’t had a negative response” ended the article. Well now you have! N Jones Ashford
