Closure should not be allowed

-

I don’t believe Iceland should be allowed to lock their rear door. The last time I looked it was clearly marked as a fire exit.

I remonstrated with staff in there some years ago when they locked the rear door before ‘close of play’ while the shop was still full of customers.

If the door is to be closed to prevent entry from outside it should be fitted with a panic bar to allow egress in the event of an emergency.

I also doubt that shoplifting is the real reason for the closure.

Can’t shoplifters just as easily enter and leave via the front door?

What difference does the rear exit make? This exit is covered by till operatives just as the front is.

I would agree with others who have suggested that the closure of Taylor’s Passage has resulted in many more people using the Iceland shop as a short-cut to the high street, which must be very galling to Iceland staff!

I would be interested to hear the fire service’s take on this. Barrie Hart Canterbury Road, Kennington
