New firm’s body scans that take less than 40 seconds

- By Kristina Curtis

A company that offers non-invasive body scans has opened its doors in Ashford.

Claiming to be the first business of its kind in the UK, Bodicore, at Orbital Park, carries out the scans which can be used for everything from tracking pregnancies to posture readings to getting accurate measurements for clothing or prosthetic limbs.

After entering details onto a tablet, clients stand on a platform and hold a handle in each hand as the scanner rotates just over 360 degrees – taking less than 40 seconds.

It then creates a 3D avatar which shows measurements of key parts of the body alongside your posture and standing position. After the scan is finished, a member of staff shows your ava- tar and points out key measurements. You can then compare the scan to previous ones so you can clearly see and track your body shape before receiving a print out and digital copy to take away.

Jamie Bushell, joint CEO of Bodicore with Paul Towndrow, said: “I really suffer from a bad back and wanted to create something to improve it.

“I originally wanted to go down the line of clothing to support bad backs, however, because everyone’s spine and backs are different it had to be really specific and that’s how I got introduced to the idea of 3D scanning.

“I started to look at the pros and cons because I wanted something that would identify posture, but it really does work and can be used for so much more.”

So far the business says it has had a lot of interest in weight loss, personal training, clothing sizing and wellness areas with clients and businesses including weight watchers, slimming world, personal trainers, fashion designers, spas, nutritionists and professional body builders.

However Bodicore is open to everyone, not just people in specialist industries.

Recent clients i nclude a woman about to undergo a double mastectomy who had the scan to show the surgeon when she goes for reconstructive surgery.

There has also been an increasing interest from expectant mothers, who can track their pregnancy and see exactly how their body is changing.

Mr Bushell said: “It’s one thing someone telling you about your body but to actually see it on screen makes you so much more aware.”
