Law rules in Smarden win

Ashford Saturday League

-

Smarden avenged a 2-1 defeat to Charing earlier this season, with a 3-1 victory at their Premier Division rivals.

Some good moves down the left for Smarden between Charlie Banks and James Twycross created chances which weren’t converted and Matt Dyke headed wide in a goalless first half.

However, Dave Law opened the scoring after the break with a drive from just outside the area.

He then turned provider, beating three Charing players, before crossing for Paul Burt to score.

Richard Moon slotted home the third but from the kick-off, Charing hit back when a ball over the top was chased down and converted.

Ryan Carter hit a hat-trick to help South Willesborough to a 5-2 win against Lenham Wanderers Reserves in Division 1. Reece Lawrence set up Carter with a ball over top for the opener and soon after, Lawrence put through Chris Peter Boxshall to make it 2-0 .

The hosts pulled a goal back and although Carter got his second of the game, Lenham pegged them back again to make it 3-2 at half-time.

In the second half, Carter caught the Lenham keeper off his line and, in the last 15 minutes, Jamie Ades scored on his debut to make the game safe for Willesborough.

In the other Division 1 game, Rolvenden won 6-0 at Biddenden.

The goals were shared out as Folkestone Invicta beat Lydd Town 3rds 7-2 in the Weald of Kent Cup.

Charlie Knell hit two and Lee Baker, Connor West, Kieran Bartlett, Callum Gardner and James Sheppard were also on target for Invicta.

Lydd replied through Corey Blake and Jordan Spann.

Hythe Grovellers edged Towers View 4-2 but needed extra-time to do it, the score 2-2 after 90 minutes.

With Towers only having 10 men in the first half, Hythe went into the interval 2-1 ahead.

Player-manager Paul Beaney equalised early on in the second half and Towers held on to take it to extra time but weary legs showed in the second period and Hythe took full advantage.

In the League Cup, goals from Alfie Draper (3) and Steve Parker gave Tenterden Reserves a 4-2 home win over Lydd Marsh under-21s, who netted through Patrick Robbins and Dan Baldwin.
