Lauren opens own salon, aged just 21

- By Kristina Curtis

A new beauty salon has opened in Ashford town centre.

Lauren Spean, 21, is the owner of LS Lashes and Beauty which opened the doors to its new salon on Wednesday last week.

The salon, in Tufton Street, offers eyelash extensions, eyebrow and eyelash tinting, gel nail polish and make-up application.

Lauren, who has been in the beauty industry for three years, said: “I went travelling for three months at the beginning of the year and after I got back I just threw myself into doing lashes.”

Although Lauren’s business is now booming, she was not always headed for the beauty industry.

She said: “I was actually going to go to university to study law, but after leaving sixth form I decided not to go – instead I ended up on a beauty course at Canterbury College and loved it.

“It was the lady who did my eyelashes who suggested that I do a course on them because she knew I would enjoy it, and here I am.

“I’ve had no regrets. I’ve been self-employed since college and in a year-and-a-half I’ve gone from having no clients to being able to open my own salon.

“If I had gone to university I would probably still be studying now, whereas now I’m here with my own business and I really love what I do.”

Lauren already has t wo employees – Aimee, a beauty therapist, and Kate, a make-up artist, and is looking to take on a trainee.

The salon is open from Monday to Saturday, however it is appointment only.
