Vets centre delighted to win hospital status

- By Kristina Curtis

A veterinary centre in Kingsnorth has been awarded hospital status.

Cinque Ports Vets – now the Cinque Ports Veterinary Hospital – in Ashford Road, achieved the status after a number of assessments by the Royal College of Veterinary surgeons (RCVS).

Only 7% of small animal veterinary service providers across the UK have achieved hospital status which is the highest standard of accreditation a veterinary practice can achieve.

Sharon Marsh, clinical director of Cinque Ports Vets, said: “Everyone is absolutely delighted. We have a real team ethos here and it was certainly a team effort to reach the very high standards to gain such accreditation.

“We hope this will give further confidence to all our existing clients and also show people who may be looking for a new veterinary practice that Cinque Ports Vets provides the very highest possible standard of care to our patients.”

For the assessments, the practice and team members had to meet strict standards during the rigorous examination of their premises and facilities.

This included providing a range of diagnostic facilities and ensuring hygiene, legal standards and health and safety are maintained to the highest standard.

The practice also has to ensure staff are on the premises round the clock providing 24-hour care for hospitalised patients.

Sharon continued: “We also recently obtained official Gold accreditation from International Cat Care for our commitment to providing cat friendly care to feline patients and their owners. Our hospital offers a separate cat-friendly waiting area and separate feline hospital ward to help ensure the stress of visiting the vets is kept to a minimum.”

The hospital also offers a wide range of services including all general small animal treatments, as well as endoscopy, echocardiography and cardiology consultations, pet laser therapy and a range of in house laboratory facilities.

Cinque Ports Vets, began in Rye, in 1930 and has grown across Kent and Sussex over the past 87 years to now have six surgeries in Ashford, Hawkhurst, Lydd, Rye, Tenterden and Wye.
