Baldwin treble proves in vain

Ashford Saturday League

-

Dan Baldwin’s hat-trick for Lydd & Marsh under-21s proved in vain in the only Division 1 game to be played, as his side were beaten 4-3 by Towers View, for whom Barry Brown hit a double.

Folkestone Invicta twice came from behind to beat Woodchurch 3-2 in the Premier Division.

Invicta started well, with Lee Baker going close and Connor West hitting a post. However, the hosts took the lead when the ball held up in the mud and deceived keeper Wayne Froud, allowing a Woodchurch forward to tap in. Invicta were level just before the break when James Sheppard found space in the box to fire home . In the second half, Woodchurch took the lead again when Froud was caught off his line and lobbed. Invicta hit back through Charlie Knell, who fired home a free-kick from the 30 yards to level. The visitors then took the lead when the Woodchurch keeper failed to hold a shot and Joe Bennett was on hand to smash home .

South Willesborough kick-started their start to the year with a 12-1 win at Rolvenden Reserves in Group B of the League Cup. They took the lead through Conor Little and doubled their advantage when Liam SheldonSmith headed home a free-kick.

Rolvenden pulled a goal back but Bradley Godden made it 3-1 before half-time. In the second half, Matt Burdon netted and Godden struck twice more to complete his hat-trick.

Further goals followed from SheldonSmith and Mark Hilden. Ryan Carter netted twice, man-of-the-match Little also doubled his tally and Willesborough scored one further goal to run out comprehensive winners.

Hythe Grovellers hit eight without reply against Biddenden in the other Group B game.

In the only Group A match, Tenterden Reserves defeated Lydd Town 3rds 9-2 – Seth Bunge and Charlie Barnard netting for the visitors.

Two goals from Adam Luke failed to save his side from defeat in the Ashford Charity Cup. Visitors New Romney Reserves emerged 3-2 winners.
