United conjure up dream start

-

Ashford United never looked back after making a dream start at Whyteleafe on Saturday.

Two goals in the first four minutes put the Nuts & Bolts in charge against a Leafe side trying to catch them in the race for the play-offs.

After back-to-back defeats this was just the response boss Tommy Warrilow wanted.

He said: “We flew out of the blocks, which made a change.

“They got a penalty to get them back in it and then they had a man sent off.

“We went in at 2-1 and in the second half, apart from the odd breakaway, we totally bossed it.

“We had loads of chances and it’s the third week on the spin the opposition goalie’s been man-ofthe-match.

“We won, which was the most important thing. You lose two and everyone goes over the top but it was an important one to put to bed because of where they are in the league as well.”

Ashford’s on-loan Folkestone midfielder, Sam Hasler, stunned the home side with a 35-yard strike which screamed into the top corner.

Things got even better when Jay May finished from close range to make it 2-0.

Bradley Wilson converted an 11th-minute penalty to give Leafe hope as the frantic start to the game continued.

But when Helge Orome was shown a red card on the halfhour, it left the Surrey side up against it.

Ashford scored a third goal within a minute of the restart, Sam Corne netting for the fifth time in seven games.

Warrilow said: “It was a fantastic start. Everyone who knows Has knows what he’s about and it was an unbelievable shot. We got another one not long after and overall it was a great performance and a worthy win.” Ashford: Mott, Aboagye, Carlse, Wisson (Anidugbe 76mins), Coker, Kamara, Corne, Ajala (Woodcock 80mins), Parish (Williams 84mins), May, Hasler. Sub not used: Hook. Attendance: 182.
