Wretched away form continues

-

Hythe’s rotten away form continued with defeat at highflying Horsham in Bostik South East on Saturday.

The Cannons have taken just 12 points from 14 games on the road so far this season and have lost five of their last six matches away from Reachfields.

They fell two goals behind to the hosts, who are second in the table, before on-loan Sid Sollis pulled one back for his second goal in as many games for Town.

Hythe manager Sam Denly said: “It was probably quite a good game for the neutral. I think a draw would have been fair.

“They’re a good side and we were poor in the first half but much better in the second.

“We could have got something out of the game but unfortunately a slow first half cost us.”

All the early pressure came from Horsham so it was no surprise when they took the lead on 22 minutes.

Lee Harding weaved his way through the Town defence and fired a shot into the corner past keeper Tony Coxall.

Ten minutes later, it was 2-0 when George Hayward turned and planted the ball beyond Coxall. Chris Kinnear lifted a shot over at the other end but still it was the Hornets looking more dangerous going forward. Hythe had the first chance of after the break, Sollis firing over the bar, and Kinnear also cleared the woodwork with a header from Tom Carlton’s cross.

Hythe finally made the breakthrough with 18 minutes remaining when Nigel Neita’s cross was headed into the bottom corner by Sollis.

But had it not been for a couple of good saves by Coxall, the visitors might have lost by more than one goal.

Hythe: Coxall, Kisitu (Capel 90mins), Webster, Kinnear, Rowe, Dickenson, Palmer (Sammoutis 55mins), Carlton, Ansah, Sollis, Campbell (Neita 65mins). Subs not used: Taylor, Carney.

Attendance: 192.
