WARRILOW KEEN TO SEE OFF RAMS

Tommy Warrilow wants Ashford United to build on their momentum when Ramsgate visit Homelands on Saturday.

The Nuts & Bolts remain on course for the Bostik South East play-offs after a 3-1 win at Whyteleafe last weekend.

They now have a 10-point gap to the teams outside the top five with nine games to go.

Warrilow said: “It’s important we carry the momentum forward and tick them off.

“We’ve got a really difficult game this Saturday.

“Ramsgate were a good side, we played them in the first game, so it’s no surprise to me how well they’ve done.

“There are no easy games in this league – we found that out against Herne Bay.

“I think Ramsgate are still in with a late shout for the play-offs.

“They’re in and around it so they’ve only got to put a run together and I’m sure they’ve not given that up so they’ll be going for it.”

Early goals from Sam Hasler and Jay May gave Ashford the perfect start at Whyteleafe before Sam Corne made it five goals in seven matches with a crucial third a minute into the second half.

Warrilow said: “People forget Jay’s been out a long time. That was his third game on the spin so he’s only going to get better.

“He’s not there yet but he was a real handful on Saturday. I thought he was outstanding, bringing people into the game and he’s come in with a goal.

“He gives us that different dimension and we mixed it up well.

“We knocked the ball around well as well as hitting Jay.

“We know what he’s going to bring to the table so when you lose a couple of games, people look around my side and Jay’s just coming into it so he’s going to take a little while to get going but he’s got nothing to prove to us. We know what he’s like.

“Corney got on the sheet on Saturday which was good for him.

“We managed to get him in the game a little bit more but overall it was a good team performance on Saturday from back to front.

“Whyteleafe are a good side, they brought three in last week but it was important to concentrate on what we’re doing.

“As long as we keep doing that, with nine games to go, we should be fine.”
