Schoolboy ‘wields knife’ in fight

A schoolboy was arrested on suspicion of assault after allegedly wielding a knife in a fight.

Police were called to Hythe Road in Ashford following reports of the brawl, which involved pupils from the North School in Essella Road.

The 16-year-old boy was later arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

The brawl - which left another teenage boy hurt - was witnessed by a number of schoolchil­dren as well as passing drivers.

It happened at about 8.45am last Monday.

The 16-year-old who was arrested has been released pending further investigat­ion.

North School head teacher Anna Lawrence says the school is in contact with police about the incident.

She said: “We are aware of an incident that took place in Hythe Road on Monday involving students from The North School.

“The school dealt with the incident in line with our behaviour and discipline policy and is assisting police with their inquires.”

The incident happened on the same day that official figures revealed that Kent has seen the fastest rise in knife crime in the entire country.
