There’s still time to make a nomination

The second batch of nomination­s for the Kent Charity Awards 2019 are in.

It features the county’s unsung heroes, plus organisati­ons that work tirelessly to help others.

Time is running out to make a nomination, with the deadline for entries being Tuesday, April 2.

Finalists will be invited to attend a glittering gala evening to celebrate their work.

It will take place at The Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone, on Saturday, July 13.

Those in the running include Eva’s Angels, which provides families affected by childhood cancer with short breaks at a caravan in Seaview Holiday Park, Whitstable.

Other entrants include homeless charity Porchlight, Swale-based domestic abuse charity Child’s Vision and The Kent Autistic Trust. My Shining Star, based in Gillingham, is also up for an award. It provides financial support to families with children undergoing cancer treatment.

It is joined by educationa­l health and wellbeing charity, Inspire Schools, which helps boost literacy levels, road safety skills and encourages families across Kent to reduce their carbon footprint.

Entries have also been received from: Medway’s

Net Community Hub, which supports vulnerable Walderslad­e residents; Maidstone Meditation, which is dedicated to restoring peace and community in the area; Dover SmART Project, which uses art to support the needs of disadvanta­ged communitie­s; and Medway Foodbank, which has grown to include eight centres since its launch in 2011.

Volunteers who have been nominated include David Burridge, of The Big Reveal, which provides music and performing arts opportunit­ies across East Kent; Mia Bernthal, of The Kent MS Therapy Centre, who helps the charity’s fundraisin­g team in Canterbury; Tom Luckett, of Medway’s My Shining Star, who helps the organisati­on with its marketing, design and website needs; Suzanne Middleton-Elliott, of Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind, who has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of mental illness; and Andy Beech, of the Kent MS Therapy Centre, who operates the charity’s hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Trustee Cheryl Morley, of memory box charity Cherished Whispers, is also up for an award. The organisati­on provides boxes to bereaved families at Medway Maritime Hospital and families who have lost a child.
