Take Stack more seriously

-

A new road is needed to solve Operation Stack. If a new dual carriageway was built running from Junction 9 to Junction 8, parallel to the

M20, this would have filter lanes at both ends along with an additional slip road/ roundabout placed between Hothfield and Ashford.

There would also be allocation for two off-road lorry parks along with facilities for customs checks.

If Operation Stack were implemented, this road would be closed off and used as a lorry holding area. Not only will this prevent villages becoming gridlocked, it will keep the M20 clear for day to day users and be a useful alternative route for other M20 closures such as accidents or road works.

This suggestion was first presented to various MPs including Damian Green along with Highways England and other bodies over three years ago but yet no one seems to be looking at the bigger picture.

At present, all towns and villages between Maidstone and Folkestone are highly affected when Operation

Stack is in motion, this will only become worse as time goes on with traffic increasing rapidly every year and steadily increasing climate changes which will make travel more and more difficult. This is not just a local issue. The entire country is affected when Stack is in operation. Why is this not being taken seriously by the government? B. Marchant,
