Huntley’s unblemished evening

-

Iron Room A got the better of Ruckinge B in Division 2 of the Ashford & District Table Tennis League.

Robert Huntley was on fine form, coasting though the evening without losing a leg to Mike Holiday, Mike Galavan and Chris Cloake.

In the first encounter David Cue led Galavan 2-0 (12-10, 12-10) but Galavan scraped through the third leg 16-14 and won the next two 11-8 and 11-3.

Cloake and Holiday both won

3-0, but that was as good as it got for Ruckinge with Keith Harris beating Chris Cloake 3-1, Holiday 3-2 and Galavan also 3-2. Iron’s 7-3 win means they are now 20 points clear of Ruckinge B with three to play, so have all-but-secured promotion back to Division 1. Ruckinge will be looking over their shoulders to everyone from third to sixth who have games in hand.

Hamstreet A took on Ruckinge C, with both teams starting the night in the relegation spots.

The Hamstreet duo were again in fine form registering their fourth double hat-trick of the season. Martin Yeandle edged passed Daniel Simmons 12-10, 11-9, 10-12, 13-11, edged past Richard Wright 11-9, 11-9, 12-10 and beat Terry Yeomans 11-9, 11-8, 11-7.

Ben Brown went through the Ruckinge side without losing a leg and Anthony Bodle only came away with one on the night but it could have been more. Terry Yeoman was trailing

2-1 to Bodle before fourth and fifth-leg wins to take the point for Ruckinge. Daniel Simmons was unable to take a leg off the Hamstreet player, but his team mate, Wright, came through in five. Simmons and Wright won the doubles 3-1.
