Runaway champions in their debut season

-

Ashford Hockey Club’s Ladies’ 4th team have plenty to celebrate after a hugely successful debut season in the Women’s Kent League.

The team won 21 of their 22 Division 5 fixtures, securing the title by six points from K Sports.

Under the leadership of captain Nina Dhindsa they rattled in 107 goals – 20 more than their nearest rivals – and conceded just nine.

Ashford wrapped up the campaign on Saturday with 7-0 home win over Sevenoaks 7ths, the highlight of which was a sixth hat-trick of the season for Olivia Phillips.

Phillips opened the scoring with a superb goal inside the opening minutes and then struck again before Chloe Digby added a third before half-time.

Emily Body got the first goal of the second half, with Phillips completing her treble and then adding a fourth before a change of stick by midfielder Eloise Hoyle was rewarded with a straight strike.

Every member of the squad showed superb team work and fitness with the defence of Orissa Mobbs and Karen Skelton rotating with Carolina Skinner, Matilda Forbes and Rosie Rimmer.

Alice Goodman continued to show she is second to none as a marker while Debbs Gurr was confident in goal.

Midfielders, Elaine Miller, Betsey Bowden and Jodie Grima showed great pace and up front Alice Browning worked hard.
