TV presenter opens barn for charity

-

TV presenter and ex- Royal Marine Arthur Williams flew into Woodchurch on a special mission.

The pilot and former Paralympic cyclist, who is paralysed from the waist down following a car crash in 2007, officially opened the new barn at Woodchurch Carriage Driving for the Disabled.

Williams, who presented Channel 4’s Flying Across Britain series, said: “Facilities for disabled people that are purpose-built are important landmarks in the community.

“Woodchurch Carriage Driving for the Disabled is an incredible asset for disabled people and it is brilliant to see so many active volunteers helping to improve disabled people’s lives.”

Susi Anderson, group organiser for the charity, said: “We can’t thank Arthur enough for making such a huge effort flying all the way from Devon to open our new facility.”

She added that the barn, which includes disabled toilets, would be of benefit to all group members and thanked everyone involved for their support.

Volunteers from the High Halden-based charity, Life is not an Xbox, painted the barn’s interior and group leader David Ball said: “It has been an absolute privilege to be involved in this project. Our young volunteers have really gone the distance to help make it happen. This is what community is all about.”

The charity is supported ex- Ashford mayor George Koowaree who also attended the opening.
