PARISH COUNCIL: The Parish Council met in the Memorial Hall on Monday August 12.

The Minutes of the July meeting were approved, subject to a minor amendment, and Matters Arising discussed – there has as yet been no update on proposals to move the proposed puffin crossing at the Ransley Farm development.

The Open Session followed, which gives residents the opportunity to raise any concerns with the Council; no matters were raised.

It is hoped to install two signs at the entrances to Jubilee Park, and a quote of £475 for a recycled plastic sign was put forward; the supplier will be asked if a discount would be applied were more than one sign to be ordered. Quotes from other suppliers will be sought, including wooden signs.

Planting of commemorative trees on Parish Council-managed land: Following a request to the Parish Council to plant a tree on the village green, it was agreed that all such requests would be considered on a case-by-case basis, taking into account what the individual being so commemorated has done for the community.

Migration of the village website to a new host was discussed, noting that due regard must be paid to the new website accessibility regulations – the village website must comply with these by September 2020.

Planning: Three planning applications were discussed; one was supported, comments submitted on the second, and an objection made to the third. It is hoped that there will be progress in September on works at Precinct 13, pending the outcome of an application to discharge a planning condition relating to possible pollution from the fuel tanks which had been on the site. Church Hill: a decision on the appeal to the Planning Inspectorate is expected in September.

The Financial report was approved.

The borough councillor reported on the outcome of a survey of residents, which showed that 83% of residents are satisfied with the borough council, 60% of adults are physically active (which is higher than the national average), 80% of employment is accounted for by small businesses.

There are discussions to operate a minibus to link the village with, eg doctors’ surgeries elsewhere. The composition of the borough council Planning Committee has changed, to reflect the results of the May borough council elections.

The meeting closed after taking Any Other Business.

The next Parish Council meeting will be on Monday September 9 at 7pm in the Memorial Hall, all meetings are open to the public and all are welcome.
