Marcus O’Riordan tried to treat his T20 debut against Surrey as just another game. The young off-spinner found himself in the spotlight playing before a sell-out crowd at Canterbury just weeks after signing his first profession­al contract with the county. O’Riordan bowled the seventh and ninth overs, conceding 13 runs and showing good control and composure against Surrey Test pair Mark Stoneman and Sam Curran.

League on Saturday playing for Tunbridge Wells as they lost to HSBC (he took

0-33 from eight overs and scored 13 with the bat), but the 21-year-old hopes the Surrey game won’t be his last taste of the big time. The former Tonbridge School pupil said: “It was amazing to be out there and be playing for Kent. I’ve come thorough all the age groups and the academy so to make my debut, I was delighted.”

He added: “I came on at a good time, just after the power play, to two lefthander­s, so it was nice to settle in there.” Follo owing their victory aga inst Dulwich the previous wee ek, Mersham’s unbeaten run came to an end against Tun bridge Wells.

The game against Dulwich was s dominated by the bat with the away team posting 104-5, Helen Fagg taking 2-9. In reply, Chelsea Lenihan (retired 30) and Fagg (retired 31) were well supported by Rachel Stevens (27 not out), as Mersham recorded their fifth straight victory, with two overs to spare.

At Tunbridge Wells, the hosts batted first, racking up 125-2. In reply, despite Katie Jordan retiring on 30, tight bowling restricted Mersham to 86-4, which meant a first defeat of the season, by 39 runs.
