New motorway junction will just shift traffic jams
News that the new Junction 10a will not open on October 31 is no surprise.
The site has had almost perfect weather for groundworks. It is quite clear that if sufficient planning and resources had been put into the project earlier, rather than too late, then it could have been opened as planned.
There are a number of areas where Highways England could have made sensible decisions with the help of a good contractor.
The pathetic performance of all working on the small culvert under the A20 adjacent to the old garden centre is typical.
This has taken some 18 months and still remains single carriageway!
You drive through the section and nothing is happening, or they are on their mobiles.
Tesco also seems to be a great attraction for many workers. The new roundabout on the A2070 will cause massive traffic jams as it is far too small in diameter. There is plenty of room for a larger one without affecting the development.
Why is the London-bound carriageway on the M20 still only two dangerous lanes?
Without moving the steel barrier it would be perfectly feasible to open two unused lanes for light traffic only -brain surgery for Highways England.
Once completed 10a will merely move the the jams from junction 10 to the new roundabout.
We will have spent some £100m to achieve this feat.

Mersham on-the-spot sale and not a juggernaut in sight.
Then, there were no motorways. Just think, if we were to do away with our current motorways and their huge roundabouts, etc, that would release thousands of hectares and good arable land.
That could be reinstated by farmers to produce much more home-grown food, making us almost self-sufficient and we would enjoy a much cleaner environment.
