Trio among the prizes

The Ashford & District RRC squad at the Woodchurch 5 and 10 mile races took home three age category prizes on Sunday.

The circular course was undulating, with those running 10 miles completing two laps.

In the five mile race, Paul Moses was third overall and first male V50 with a time of 33min 15sec.

Keith Haynes was fifth overall and first male V40 in 33.48. Sarah Taylor was next home for the club in 58.39, followed by Julie Foster in 1:11.44.

The 10 mile race saw Mark Attenborou­gh finish seventh overall and first male V50, with a time of 1:13.00.

Finishing second in this age category, Adrian Moody then crossed the finish line in 1:14.27.

Keith Lynn was next in 1:37.28, followed by Trevor Sparkes in 1:45.57 (PB) and Hugh Scarlin in 1:46.51.

Three A&D runners travelled to Shorne Woods Country Park, near Gravesend, for Sunday’s five mile race.

On a mixture of track and trails, the route included a testing incline.

Jon Wells was fourth overall and second in his age category, with a time of 34.44. Paul Ridley finished in 36.47, making him ninth overall. Lucy Johnstone was next home for the club in 58.27.

The weekend marked a return to racing for Gill O’Connor, who took on the Rutland Half-Marathon with sister Christine Costiff.

The undulating course ran along the banks of Rutland Reservoir. Costiff was fourth overall and first in the female V55 category, with a time of 1:45.10. O’Connor finished second in this category, with a time of 1:53.58.

■ Saturday morning saw the 303rd Ashford parkrun where 251 people ran, jogged or walked the 5k.

Celebratin­g a personal best was Vicky Stevenson, of Ashford Striders, in 26min 21sec.

Paul McDonnell was the first Strider to finish in 18.48 followed by Justin Burden in 22.36.

Other Striders times: Josh Whiten 24.05, Nicki Crawley 27.56, Andy Found, 28.06, Jason Wearn 28.10, Justine Wearn 28.11, Daniel Forbes 28.20, Mark Archer 28.52, Hazel Forrester 29.13, Shane Snowwolf (and Loki) 29.22, Brian Forrester 30.32, Jamie Bartlett 31.34, Hannah Lothian 32.10, Clare Maxlow 34.09, Daniele Moss 43.15 and Shelly Blake 44.50.

Strider volunteers were: Sara Dewar, Becca Hurley, Jason Sanders, Rebecca Somerford and Martin Whittingha­m.

Becca Hurley travelled to Westerham to complete the Squerryes Winery parkrun and completed her parkrun bingo of finishing in every second of the minute, in 29.08.

Rachel Oliver was in Folkestone to complete the 5k in 30.26. Linda-Jean Delport finished the Cardiff parkrun in 21.20.

Becca Hurley completed the Great Local Run 5k on Sunday in 29.43, Andy Broom finished in 31.40 and Jeanette French completed the 2k in 18.28

A group of Striders were in Faversham, for the 10k supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Justin Burden was first home in 48.45, followed by Julie Virani (1:00.55), Andy Found (1:01.11), Michael Ruck (1:22.54) and Allison Button (1:22.55).

Three Striders competed in the Woodchurch 10 and 5 mile event. Justine Wearn (49.23) and Danielle Moss (1:09.07) completed five mile race and Nicki Crawley finished the 10 mile event in 1:41.13.

Shane Snowwolf completed the Shorne Woods Trail 5 mile event in 46.59.

Lee Standen celebrated his 40th birthday by completing the Rotterdam half marathon in 2:09.46

Cris Francis took part in the Swim Serpentine Festival, completing two miles in 1:14.19.
