Smith off to a winning start

New Market Hotel playermana­ger Ryan Smith got off to a winning start as he began his tenure with a 2-1 Kent Sunday Premier Cup victory at Marden Minors.

Goals from Ryan Philpott and Alfie Dryland saw Smith’s new look side claim the victory.

Brewmaster are out of the competitio­n, going down 2-0 at home to West Kent League side Simla.

Nailbox were also knocked out, beaten 4-1 at home by Tankerton Royals. Ricky Simm scored Nailbox’s goal.

Division 1 side Folkestone United were no match for reigning Whitstable & Herne Bay League Premier Division champions Rising Sun, losing 11-1. United were entered in the Premier Cup due to their placing in the Dover Sunday League last season before switching to the Ashford Sunday League. Reece Mooring grabbed their goal.

Artsoms Andrejevs’ goal wasn’t enough as Red Heathens were beaten 4-1 by West Kent League side Armada.

In the first round of the Kent Sunday Junior Cup, Dan Arnold scored four times in Hythe Royal British Legion’s 7-2 win against Franklins.

Further goals came from Phil Hayes, Sam Newman and Sam Ewins.

Ashford Genclik lost out in extra time as they went down 4-3 at home to Tonbridge-based Charcott. Their goals came from Dion Orris (2) and Teddy Deverson.

Sellindge SSC suffered a 3-1 home defeat to K Sports Express. Liam Middleton scored the only goal for the Swans.

Lolzors Reserves are safely through to the second round of the Kent Sunday Junior Trophy as they returned from their trip down the A20 6-2 winners over newly formed Smeeth & Brabourne.

Aiden Bourne scored twice for the Pumas adding to strikes from Justin Haywood, Bradley Hughes, Ollie Jones and Saul Persad. Will Stuttle and Max Brady replied for the villagers.

Joining them in the next round are Burton Grove who beat Division 2 rivals Park Farm Rangers 4-2.

Grove scored through Matt Johnson (2), Charlie Pearson and Andy Crouch.

Daniel Marshall and Joseph Ogunbiyi netted for Rangers.

Mark Hilden scored twice as South Willesboro­ugh progressed to the next round returning from their visit to Aldington Reserves 3-2 winners. Kurtis Hooper added a third for the visitors to cancel out strikes from Cameron Bruce and Rupesh Pun.

Brabourne were beaten 6-0 at Maidstone Internatio­nal.

Bradley Freund scored four times to help Singleton Barn beat Bromley Green Reserves 5-2.

Mersham Sports Reserves beat Kingsnorth Pilgrims 4-1 thanks to an own goal from Chris Hopper and strikes from Adam Bellman, Darrell Brown and Craig Thomson. Charlie Coribel replied for Kingsnorth.

In league action, Matt Burdon scored twice for Bromley Green who moved three points clear at the top of the Premier Division by beating last season’s champions Kennington 4-1.

Aldington left it late to maintain their 100% winning start to the season in Division 1 as they returned from their trip to Appledore 2-0 winners, Stephen Cowell (penalty) and Jamie Wicks with the goals.

Early season pace setters Cheriton AFC drop down to second after going down 4-3 to Horsebox Bars. Two goals from Jack Taylor and one from Dan Roberts were not enough as the Horsemen scored through Aaron Cook, Adam Herrington, Tony Norris and James Nuttall.

Lydd Grasshoppe­rs beat Charing 3-1with strikes from Paul Paddock, Curtis Banks and Aurin Johnson.

Nathan Simms bagged a hattrick as AFC Guildhall moved to the top of Division 2 thanks to a 7-0 win against Hamstreet.

Troggs returned from newly promoted Ashford Spartans 4-1 winners, with Alex Philpott (2), Rob Giles and Ross Breen on target.

Division 3 leaders Ashford United 3rds were held to a 2-2 by Pilgrims Sunday at Homelands.

Joe Munden headed Pilgrims into an early lead before Matt Jarvis opened his goal account for United scoring an equaliser before half time. Craig Hagley gave United the lead but Pilgrims hit back through Nathan Cook’s late free kick.

Ashley Sales bagged two goals to help Folkestone United Reserves to a 4-0 win at Charing Reserves. Jevon Hrabowecky­j and Ben Pike also got on the scoresheet.
