‘munchkins’ are this Halloween

-

People of all ages visited a farm over the weekend to enjoy a spot of pumpkin picking as Halloween approaches. Staff at the ‘Pick Your

Own Pumpkin’ farm in Cheeseman’s Green Lane, Sevington, have planted 70,000 pumpkins and squashes.

Visitors were able to pick blue, grey, green and white squashes over the weekend, as well as ‘munchkins’ - which are miniature pumpkins.

Manager Jemma Thompson said: “While the orange carving pumpkin remains popular, we are seeing more families wanting different varieties for cooking.

“There is something quite satisfying from taking your ingredients straight from the field to your fork.”

The family-run farm will be open to the public from Saturday, October 19 to Wednesday, October 30.

Pumpkins will be priced according to size and some of the cash raised throughout the season will be donated to the Brain Tumour Charity.

Elsewhere, a number of activities are being put on across the town centre to celebrate Halloween.

Loveashford will be running its Day of the Dead event next Saturday (October 26) from 11am to 6pm.

Visitors will be able to collect a free map from The Glass House in the Lower High Street before walking a route around town, collecting letters to spell out a secret message.

When complete, a reward will be waiting at the starting point.

The Halloween trail will run from 11am until 2pm and the prizes will be distributed to the first 400 people completing the challenge.

Organisers say one map will be issued per child.

On the same day, from 12pm to 4pm, there will be face painting in Park Mall, where children can also make flower crowns and skull masks with Emporia Fabric and Crafts.
