Delport finishes first lady

Ashford Striders

A large number of Striders took part in Ashford & District RRC 5 mile and 10 mile races on Sunday.

In the 10 miles, Striders won the team trophy through , Linda Jean Delport, Aiden Gorham and Jacob Henwood.

Delport was the first lady overall and first in her age group, finishing in 1:12.18. Gorham (1:06.38) was the first Strider male to finish, with Jacob Henwood coming home in 1:15.55. Other times: Shane Snowwolf 1:31.27, Oli Mason 1:32.18, Reece Corner 1:32.20 (PB), Julie Virani 1:36.47 (PB), Lee Standen 1:38.10 (PB), Nettie Freeman 1:49.24, Hazel Forrester 1:49.29, Clare Maxlow 2:05.09 (PB) and Lyndsey Appleton 2:09.17.

The first Strider to finish the 5 mile race was Josh Whiten in 39.24 followed by Alison Waters who was in the top five ladies and first in her age category in 41.14.

Taking part in the 5k Great Run Local were Brian Marsh 24.49 and Greg Johnson 25.09. Ashford parkrun had a sixth anniversary on Saturday. Celebrating a personal best time was Leanne Clark in 34.44, while Jeannette French took part in her first parkrun at Victoria Park, finishing in 32.25.

Justin Burden was the first Strider to finish, in 22.49, followed by Steve Rumsey in 24.18. Alison Waters was the first Strider lady to finish and fourth lady overall in 24.44.

Strider volunteers were Justin Burden, Rachel Forrester, Brian Forrester, Hazel Forrester, Owen Protheroe, Lee Standen and Josh Whiten. A group of Striders travelled to the south coast to take on the Beachy Head Marathon. Paul McDonnell was the first club member to finish, in 4hr 07min 24sec. He was followed by Sara Hunt in 5:37.59, Peter Lane in 6:40.58 and John Mitchell in 6:53.56.
